Chapter 4 / 11 · 1500

The Italy of Caterina Sforza

In search of the Mona Lisa

Saved on this browser

Leonardo travels through a turbulent Italy where the same families appear repeatedly around art and warfare. Caterina Sforza, ruler of Forlì and daughter of Galeazzo Maria, has also been proposed as the sitter. The historical setting makes the suggestion intriguing, but it lacks the documentary trail that we will find in Florence.
