The Tree of Europe · Person

Catherine Jagiellon

Daughter of Sigismund I of Poland and Bona Sforza, she married John of Sweden, the future John III. Their son Sigismund combined election in Poland with inheritance in Sweden. The Jagiellon–Vasa connection explains this accumulation, but political and religious differences eventually separated the crowns.
