The Tree of Europe · Person

Antonio Barberini

The son of Carlo Barberini and Costanza Magalotti was one of Urban VIII’s cardinal-nephews: his appointment, reserved from 1627, was made public in 1628. With his brothers Francesco and Taddeo he shared the family’s power and patronage, and its difficulties with Innocent X after 1644. His uncle was the Capuchin cardinal of the same name.
